Fossils of intelligent creatures unearthed on Island D · No. 00034’
Ceramic, 15*25*18cm, 2011
This work named ‘ Discovery of Wonderland–D ’ constructs a fictitious underwater archaeological discovery: the emergence of an unknown civilization, and the intelligent creatures that created this civilization are unknown beings in the shape of mushrooms.
The process from production to exhibition of this work was all forged. The whole process includes: geological discovery, excavation site, data research, connection and deduction between clues, restoration of the appearance of intelligent organisms, and finally make it public (including news reports and exhibitions in ‘museum’), all according to the current archaeological logic.
This work creates a world without human existence. The whole ‘archaeological event’ used the widely accepted archaeological narrative in the real world. But after replacing the research objects in it, an absurd result was deduced, which made the logic of reality conflicts with reality itself. This work expresses my thinking about the subjectivity of human beings in the past and the future, and it also metaphors my doubts about the authenticity of human civilization.

Overlap ‘real’ and ‘fiction’:
Many of the images are real underwater archaeological data images and news photos in the real world. I arrange these real images together with fake data I fabricated. Construct the research route of each ‘wisdom mushroom life’ in the process of this ‘archaeology’ project.

While ‘ Wonderland–D Temporary Museum of Underwater Archaeology’ was on exhibited, I also produced some fake TV news to report on this ‘great discovery of archaeology’ at the same time.
”An underwater island with signs of civilization was discovered in 2011. The island sank into the P a c i f i c O c e a n a b o u t 4 0 , 0 0 0 y e a r s a g o . Archaeologists named it - D Island. The underwater exploration team discovered a large number of fossils resembling mushrooms. Current data show that a variety of unknown elements have been found in the inner layer of these mushroom-like creatures, and related researchers are conducting further research and analysis. At the same time, a large number of shell-shaped round slices were unearthed. Experts speculate that these slices are most likely the currency of the "mushroom civilization". At present, there are many doubts to be further determined. “———Selected from relevant fake press releases.

“During the archaeological process, a large number of paper-like fragments were discovered. According to the preliminary speculation by experts, these images are probably the way the "Mushroom Man" was written and recorded at that time. After months of cooperation, archaeologists and mural restorers jointly restored the portrait of the "Mushroom Man". This discovery provides important support for the restoration of the appearance of the Mushroom-Man fossil. ”

“Based on the restored portrait of "mushroom", paleontologists used an appearance restoration technique to restore the general appearance of the former owner of Island D. The most outstanding application of this technique was for the analysis and restoration of dinosaur fossils. The following images show the ‘Mushroom-Man’ sculpture restored by the paleontologists.”
